responsibilities:
- Oversee all purchasing activities to ensure materials and services meet quality, cost, and delivery standards
- Manage and support a team handling purchasing, inventory control, and vendor management
- Act as the primary buyer for complex or long lead-time materials and components
- Review and issue purchase orders, monitor delivery schedules, and resolve supplier issues
- Maintain accurate inventory levels and ensure materials align with production schedules
- Analyze demand forecasts and historical usage to plan material requirements
- Evaluate and select suppliers based on performance, pricing and reliability
- Negotiate pricing, contracts and delivery terms to achieve cost savings and stable supply
- Track an analyze market trends for key commodities like steel, metals and natural gas
- Review and approve team purchasing recommendations and pricing updates in ERP
- Coordinate with engineering, production and sales teams to align material needs with project timelines
- Address material shortages and adjust plans as needed to avoid disruption
- Monitor and report on purchasing performance metrics and cost-saving initiatives
- Lead supplier relationship management to ensure partnerships and consistent quality
- Identify opportunities for process improcement and greater efficiency within purchasing operations
