responsibilities:
- Conduct regular visits to active utility sites (trenching, shoring, paving, and bypass pumping) to ensure OSHA 1926 compliance and company standards
- Lead daily tailboards and monthly safety meetings and maintain certifications
- Stay ahead of federal and state (VOSH) regulation changes, updating company manuals and SOPs to reflect current industry best practices
- Lead the integration of new hires
- Work with Field Leads to identify skill gaps and coordinate training for operators and laborers
- In the event of an incident or "near miss," lead the root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions
- 3+ years of experience in heavy civil or underground utility construction
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction required, OSHA 500 (Trainer) or CSP/CHST preferred
- A "growth mindset" is essential. You must be willing to take on tasks outside of traditional safety, such as fleet coordination, basic project administration, or HR support
- Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel between project sites in the Tidewater and Richmond regions
