A Buyer is needed for a manufacturer of optics products in the Brooklyn Park, MN area. This role requires a bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of supply chain experience to manage purchasing and inventory levels by utilizing ERP systems, negotiating with suppliers, and analyzing MRP data to ensure timely product delivery and cost efficiency.

responsibilities:
- Ensure a high service level to customers while achieving established supply chain goals.
- Purchase completed products and repair parts from approved suppliers.
- Emphasize timely delivery while producing and maintaining cost reductions.
- Prevent backorders and overstock situations through proactive management.
- Ensure ERP material master and vendor information remains accurate and up to date.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels by balancing service levels and costs.
- Analyze and execute system-generated MRP results.
- Interact with suppliers to foster cooperative working relationships.
- Negotiate and resolve quality and service issues to the benefit of the company.
- Execute purchasing activities with an assigned supply base using timely and accurate communication.
- Place purchase orders and obtain necessary order confirmations.
- Manage delivery schedules by expediting, delaying, or canceling orders as required.
- Update ERP purchase order delivery dates to reflect real-time inventory availability.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of ERP system planning and its impact on purchasing.
- Evaluate material requirements and update item master data to support purchasing strategy.
- Analyze changes to MRP inputs and outputs to identify problems and recommend solutions.
- Project potential supply shortages and coordinate with suppliers to avoid backorders.
- Communicate supply issues and recovery timelines in detail to key internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Supplier Quality and Warehouse teams to resolve material non-conformances.
- Obtain return authorizations and facilitate return shipments and credit memos.
- Assist Accounts Payable in resolving three-way-match issues between purchase orders, receipts, and invoices.
- Report supplier performance metrics and identify solutions for poor-performing vendors.
- Manage Supplier Change Notices and material Phase-in/Phase-out processes.
- Ensure systems are correctly set up to support new product launches.
- Support the continuous improvement of business processes.
- Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Supply Chain or Business is required.
- APICS or similar professional certification is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in supply chain or procurement.
- Significant understanding of general business processes.
- Experience utilizing ERP systems, with a preference for SAP.
- Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflicts to reach a consensus.
- strong abilities in problem-solving, data analysis, and decision-making.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Well-versed in MS Office applications including Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel between 5% and 10% as needed.
