A Quality Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Fairport, NY area. This role focuses on strengthening the Quality Management System (QMS) for an advanced optics manufacturing facility and will translate customer requirements into technical standards, manage product qualifications, and lead root-cause investigations for customer complaints.

responsibilities:
- Strengthen product quality systems and architecture within the site's Quality Management System (QMS).
- Translate customer requirements and field insights into clear standards, controls, and acceptance criteria.
- Ensure compliance with ISO Quality Standards and ensure products are fit for their intended use.
- Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes and cost reduction initiatives.
- Optimize sampling plans and methods for Quality Control and manufacturing teams.
- Collaborate with innovation teams to translate new product needs into plant-specific specifications.
- Support plant engineering with equipment qualification and process validation.
- Author and review user documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and technical specifications.
- Perform internal and external quality auditing to maintain compliance.
- Lead cross-functional investigations into customer complaints and process performance issues.
- Previous Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing or technical function.
- Experience with internal and external auditing.
- Demonstrated use of root cause and problem-solving skills to resolve technical issues independently.
- Experience with disposition of materials.
- Experience with procedure and work instruction development.
- Project management experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge or experience with ISO 9001 and/or regulated products.
- Experience with Performance Excellence (Six Sigma) Green Belt or Black Belt.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or equivalent.
- ASQ Certified Quality Auditor or equivalent.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in project management.
- Proficiency in problem solving software (e.g., Minitab).
- Experience in optical manufacturing setting.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related Technical degree.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in manufacturing/process/quality.
