A Mechanical Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Newton, NC area. This role is focused on optimizing the mechanical performance, design, and reliability of high-speed cable assembly lines through CAD design, statistical analysis, and hands-on troubleshooting.

responsibilities:
- Own the mechanical capability, performance, and robustness of high-volume cable and ribbon assembly equipment.
- Establish and monitor equipment metrics including OEE, Cp/Cpk, uptime, scrap, and yield.
- Lead capability studies, line balancing, and throughput optimization to improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Identify and resolve mechanical constraints related to line speed, tension stability, and dimensional control.
- Design and optimize tooling, fixtures, rollers, payoff systems, and tension control mechanisms.
- Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for equipment upgrades and custom tooling.
- Perform engineering calculations for tension, torque, inertia, and material deformation.
- Provide hands-on technical support during production trials, equipment start-ups, and retrofits.
- Execute structured root cause analysis to implement corrective actions for chronic equipment issues.
- Define mechanical requirements and performance specifications for new equipment acquisitions.
- strong hands on experience with ribboning, stranding, extrusion, shielding, jacketing, or armoring equipment.
- Deep understanding of mechanical systems in continuous manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
- Proficiency in data Analysis - JMP, Excel, Minitab.
- Experience performing equipment capability analysis and production line optimization.
- strong troubleshooting and analytical problem solving skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 3-6 years of experience in cable manufacturing or cable assembly equipment engineering.
