Seeking a Principal Systems Engineer EO/IR for a high growth defense contractor onsite in the Melbourne, FL area!
The Principal Systems Engineer would be responsible for driving EO/IR innovation: Lead technical execution for thermal imaging and targeting systems, ensuring delivery on-time, on-budget. Own the design, requirements engineering, and testing of cooled/uncooled IR products from concept through Critical Design Review (CDR).

responsibilities:
- Drive EO/IR Innovation: Lead technical execution for thermal imaging and targeting systems, ensuring delivery on-time, on-budget, and within SWaP-C (Size, Weight, Power, and Cost) targets.
- System Architecture: Own the design, requirements engineering, and testing of cooled/uncooled IR products from concept through Critical Design Review (CDR).
- Technical Authority: Serve as the SME for independent projects while mentoring junior engineers in optical design and sensor integration.
- Performance Modeling: Conduct advanced analysis (e.g., NVTherm, MTF, Radiometry) to validate tactical EO/IR performance in rugged environments.
- DTC/DFM Excellence: Implement Design to Cost and Design for Manufacture principles to optimize high-volume production at the Melbourne facility.
- Risk Mitigation: Develop rapid prototypes to retire technical risks and validate sensor performance early in the development cycle.
- Proposal Leadership: Lead technical volumes for complex DoD proposals and Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) initiatives.
- Stakeholder Synergy: Partner with Melbourne manufacturing, supply chain, and program management to ensure seamless production transition.
- Customer Interface: Present technical roadmaps and trade studies directly to DoD customers and internal executive leadership.
