On behalf of our Southeastern Michigan client, a respected leader in the construction industry, we are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join a highly collaborative preconstruction team. This role is designed for a detail-oriented professional who excels at translating complex project specifications and architectural drawings into accurate, competitive estimates. You will take ownership of the initial bid phase by attending pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and soliciting comprehensive proposals from material suppliers. By analyzing costs, engineering requirements, and material availability, you will provide the "best-value" recommendations that are essential to the firm's successful project delivery and long-term profitability.
The position also offers the opportunity to act as a key technical resource throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with Preconstruction Specialists to develop thorough, professional proposals-including project narratives and schedules-and assist the operations team with contract management and change-order pricing as projects move forward. Beyond individual bids, you will contribute to the firm's growth by developing conceptual estimates for business development and maintaining the internal estimating productivity database.
They are looking for someone with 7 years of steel estimating experience and prefer candidates to have a Bachelor's dergree. It is a plus if you are a licensed PE.

Prepare detailed estimates and backup documentation for review. Review project specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate. Develop options and recommend best value solutions based on cost, engineering, quality, or availability of materials. Assist in managing pricing for change orders facilitate the resolution of any contractual issues. Work with the Preconstruction Specialist to develop complete professional proposals, including all required information including schedules, project narratives, organizational charts, etc. Establish and maintain positive relationships and ethical practices with owners, consultants, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
