As the first point of contact in the Emergency Department, the Patient Access Representative serves as the primary liaison for patients and families entering the facility. You will balance technical precision in revenue cycle management with deep empathy, ensuring that every patient is registered accurately while navigating the emotional distress of an emergency visit. You are an essential driver of the "clinically driven revenue cycle," working hand-in-hand with medical staff to ensure seamless patient flow and regulatory compliance. ***Multiple schedules available***

Responsibilities

• Patient Liaison & Registration: Act as the primary point of contact upon arrival; conduct face-to-face interviews to capture accurate demographics and insurance data while ensuring compliance with managed care contracts and CMS regulations.
• Clinical Collaboration: Proactively partner with ED nurses, physicians, and technicians to communicate registration status and resolve insurance or authorization issues that may impact the timing of patient care.
• Financial Counseling & Documentation: Explain and obtain signatures on Consents for Treatment, Financial Responsibility forms, and HIE data sharing; complete Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) questionnaires and verify benefits to collect payments at the time of service.
• Revenue Cycle Integrity: Assess Medical Necessity guidelines with providers to prevent denials, research billing problems to ensure payment, and maintain the integrity of critical system data elements.
• Compliance & Record Keeping: Utilize Cerner Imaging Functions to scan documents into medical records and adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations, hospital/physician billing practices, and departmental policies.
• Team Support & Problem Solving: Resolve patient complaints and workflow issues independently; assist physicians with billing and pre-certification inquiries; and mentor/train new staff members on departmental procedures.
