- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience for exempt, non-exempt, and union employees.
- Leadership: 5–10 years of direct payroll team supervision and leadership experience required.
- Certified Payroll: 2+ years of hands-on Certified Payroll and prevailing wage experience is highly preferred.
- Financial Literacy: strong understanding of payroll’s impact on the general ledger, including the ability to reconcile associated GL accounts. Experience with job cost/project timesheets is a plus.
- Labor Relations: Prior experience understanding and complying with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) for union payroll processing is strongly encouraged.
- Technical Skills: Proficient to expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), with advanced Excel capabilities including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and IF/IFS formulas.
- Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive employee and financial data.

Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Direct, lead, and mentor a small team of payroll administrators, providing hands-on training and fostering professional development.
- Compliance & Regulation: Ensure continuous compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Prepare and file weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll records.
- Complex Wage Calculation: Oversee the accurate calculation of union and non-union wages, tax withholdings, and deductions in compliance with statutory requirements and Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
- Tax Reconciliation: Prepare, reconcile, and file quarterly and year-end payroll tax returns; maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving state and federal payroll legislation.
- Audit & System Integrity: Support and liaise with external auditors and examiners. Maintain the absolute integrity and accuracy of employee data within the accounting system.
- Problem Resolution: Apply strong analytical and critical thinking skills to resolve payroll discrepancies efficiently, ensuring a high level of internal customer service.
