The Ideal Candidate
Our client needs a pragmatic partner who understands field culture in construction, trades, or heavy industry. If you rely on rigid HR textbooks, strictly enforce black-and-white policies without context, or expect a traditional desk-only environment, this will not be the right fit. We need someone comfortable operating in the grey area—balancing compliance and safety with the practical, fast-moving realities of job sites and field crews.
Key Qualifications
- Industry Background: Prior experience in construction, heavy civil, materials, trucking, or industrial trades is strictly required.
- Practical Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to navigate HR grey areas and make sensible, balanced decisions.
- Core Competencies: Proven exposure to workers' comp claims processing, hourly timekeeping verification, and basic accounts payable entry.
salary: $60,000 - $75,000 per year
shift: First
work hours: 8 AM - 5 PM
education: High School
Responsibilities
- Timecard Verification: Review hourly employee clock-ins and clock-outs, reconcile missing punches with yard/fleet supervisors, and track overtime.
- Payroll Processing: Prep bi-weekly or weekly payroll data for hourly yard workers, equipment operators, and CDL drivers.
- Leave & Attendance: Track PTO, sick leave, and unexcused absences in accordance with company policy.
- Application Processing: Screen incoming job applications, conduct initial phone pre-screens, and coordinate interviews for yard and driver roles.
- Onboarding & I-9 Compliance: Conduct new hire orientation, process Form I-9 verification, and handle background checks or E-Verify requirements.
- Uniform & Gear Program: Order, track, and manage distribution of uniforms, high-vis safety gear, and boots for field staff; manage laundry/rental service invoices.
- Workers' Compensation Claims: Serve as the primary point of contact for injury reports, file First Report of Injury forms with the insurance carrier, and monitor return-to-work status.
- OSHA / MSHA Recordkeeping: Maintain workplace injury logs (OSHA 300 logs) and coordinate required safety training documentation.
- DOT / CDL Tracking: Track commercial driver medical cards, driver license renewals, and routine drug/alcohol testing files if managing haulers.
