salary: $16 - $17 per hour
shift: First
work hours: 5 AM - 3:30 PM

Responsibilities
1. Machine Setup and Precision Calibration
The operator is the "pilot" of the mill. They don't just turn it on; they prepare it for a specific "flight."
- Adjusting Gaps: Setting the precise distance between rollers to achieve the exact thickness or gauge required.
- Loading Material: Managing the feed rate of raw materials (ingots, billets, or grains) into the mill.
- Pre-Heating: In hot rolling, ensuring the material and the rolls are at the optimal temperature to prevent cracking or equipment damage.
A roll mill is a high-pressure environment where things can change in a split second.
- Surface Inspection: Constantly checking the finished product for defects like scratches, ripples, or "alligatoring."
- Measurement: Using micrometers or automated sensors to ensure the product stays within strict tolerances (often down to microns).
- Fluid Management: Monitoring the flow of coolants and lubricants that keep the rollers from overheating or sticking.
Because these machines involve massive force and moving parts, safety is the top priority.
- Roll Changes: Coordinating the heavy lifting required to swap out worn or damaged rollers.
- Troubleshooting: Identifying "off-sounds" or vibrations that signal a mechanical issue before a breakdown occurs.
- Clearing Jams: Safely removing "cobbles" (deformed material) using specialized tools and strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
