This is a 1st shift position as an Industrial Painter. This is a spray, zinc coating position, no powder coating. M-F 6a-4:30p $17/hr. The Industrial Painter is responsible for cleaning, preparing, and applying industrial coatings and primers to fabricated heavy structural steel products. This role ensures that all steel pieces meet strict customer and company specifications for rust prevention and paint thickness before being loaded and shipped out.

Responsibilities

• Surface Preparation: Clean steel surfaces prior to painting. This includes using scrapers, disk grinders, wire brushes, power hand tools, and approved cleaning solutions to remove rust, scale, and slag. Mask off designated areas that must remain paint-free.
  
  
• Paint Mixing & Equipment Operation: Operate industrial spray equipment. Select correct air pressures and properly mix/thin paint primers or specialized epoxy coatings to ensure the right consistency (viscosity) based on manufacturer guidelines.
  
  
• Coating Application: Apply uniform base primer coats and finish coats to structural steel. Use applicable shop drawings to determine correct paint coverage areas while avoiding overspray or excessive material waste.
  
  
• Material Handling: Safely hook up and operate overhead cranes to move, flip, load, and unload heavy fabricated steel pieces on and off paint skids.
  
  
• Hazardous Material Management: Safely store paints and thinners, ensure correct labeling of all paint waste, keep accurate logs of material usage, and promptly report any chemical spills.
  
  
• Quality & Record Keeping: Check paint thickness using dials or gauges, and maintain basic data logs including time tracking and production counts.
