Key Responsibilities
- Glaze Preparation: Prepare lab-scale glaze batches following standard formulations. Weigh/mix raw materials (frits, clays, oxides, pigments, additives). Perform grinding/milling (ball mill) and ensure correct particle size distribution. Maintain sample labeling, storage, and traceability.
- Testing & Quality Control: Perform routine tests including density (specific gravity), viscosity (Ford cup/rotational viscometer), residue/sieve analysis, pH levels, and suspension stability.
- Evaluation: Apply products on test tiles and monitor drying behavior. Evaluate fired samples for color consistency, glossiness, and surface defects (pinholes, crazing, blistering). Accurately log results in lab systems.
- Process Support: Sample and check incoming raw materials. Help troubleshoot glaze/engobe defects and non-conformities. Support trials for new formulations or material changes.
- Lab Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and calibrate lab equipment (balances, mills, viscometers). Ensure compliance with SOPs, safety procedures, and housekeeping standards.
- Education: High School Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Ceramics Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Experience: 0–2 years in a laboratory or ceramic production environment. Entry-level candidates eager to learn are welcome!
- Familiarity with product parameters (density, viscosity, particle size).
- High attention to detail in weighing, mixing, and test execution.
- Good manual dexterity for sample preparation and tile application.
- Basic data recording skills (Excel/lab software).
- strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with production and R&D.
- A proactive learning attitude and problem-solving mindset.
- Asset: Basic understanding of glaze composition or visual defect identification.
- Hands-on training and mentorship from industry professionals.
- A dynamic, collaborative laboratory environment.
