job summary: The Assistant Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist will assist in developing, updating, analyzing, and managing GIS data for transmission line utility services. This position will assist in GIS analysis, GIS data maintenance and data preparation for use in the client's online GIS systems and regularly communicate project status to our customers, as customer service is a key component of the Assistant GIS Specialist position. The Assistant GIS Specialist will work closely within functional teams to deliver GIS data and GIS services to our clients, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, customer commitment, sense of urgency, and continuous improvement. location: Chicago, Illinois job type: Contract salary: $30 - 34 per hour work hours: 8am to 5pm education: Bachelors responsibilities: Analyze, prepare, review and interpret land and right of way related agreements, deeds, easements, leases, permits and licenses. Understand and interpret easement agreements. Assist with GIS mapping and updating easement data. Utilize various software packages and information from various sources (MS Excel spreadsheets and documents such as deeds, field notes etc.) to create GIS maps to support field personnel as well as for deliverables. Assist in the projections and transformations for project deliverables. Efficient at working independently as well as in team environment. Maintain records to track all locations of documents. Assist in the creation and updating of new and existing easement polygons and map layers using ArcGIS enterprise database. Assist with land survey records search, ownership data research from various sources. Assist with georeference Raster and Vector data. Performs other duties as assigned, including supporting non-environmental permitting (i.e. roadway occupancy and roadway opening permits). Complies with all policies and standards. Ability to meet deadlines. qualifications: Requirements: Bachelor Degree in GIS, geography, environmental science, or closely related field Preferred or Associate Degree Preferred or High School Diploma/GED is required. Experience working in ArcPro and AGOL. Basic GIS skills, including data analysis abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Prior GPS experience a plus. Familiarity with electric utility and fiber communication terminology as well as non-environmental permitting process and procedures a plus. Familiarity with reviewing/reading engineering plans a plus.
