job summary: A Structural Engineer is needed for a global engineering, construction and project management company in the Houston, TX area. This position is for a seasoned engineer who will independently plan, coordinate, and execute complex engineering work for a global business unit, requiring strong technical judgment, the ability to devise new approaches to problems, and responsibility for providing technical direction to subordinate staff. location: Houston, Texas job type: Contract salary: $59.35 - 77.03 per hour work hours: 8am to 4pm education: Bachelors responsibilities: Scope: Plans and conducts independent work within a global business unit.Judgment: Requires significant judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques and procedures.Innovation: Expected to devise new approaches to solving technical problems.Planning: Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work (usually in one discipline) for a project or staff group.Complexity: Performs work involving conventional practice, but must be able to resolve complex features like conflicting design requirements, material unsuitability, and difficult coordination.Technical Tools: Utilizes company Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and appropriate 2-D and 3-D CAD/CAE tools.Specifications: Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment/work specifications, bid evaluations, and award recommendations.Coordination: Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty groups, other disciplines, the client, suppliers, and contractors.Constructability: Coordinates technical issues with other departments, including constructability requirements and reviews. Management & Support Duties: Lead Role: When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups.Training: Assists in on-the-job-training of assigned personnel and provides input for their performance evaluations.Documentation: Prepares correspondence to vendors and clients.Review & Analysis: Reviews bid analyses and makes recommendations.Studies/Design: Prepares or assists in preparing conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.Problem Solving: Performs or assists in problem analysis and original design.Estimating: Prepares or assists in preparing cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts, and change orders.Checking: Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers.Work Environment: Supports a work environment that fosters openness, teamwork, empowerment, and innovation. Contacts Independently contacts vendor representatives and project field personnel.Contacts client counterparts as directed. Qualifications and Experience Basic Qualifications: Recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline.9 years of relevant experience.A professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline (e.g., P.E.).Sufficient specialized courses to meet job requirements.Practical work experience in design or allied engineering sufficient to demonstrate competence. Preferred Qualifications (Experience in Specific Market Segments): Planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more areas, including: Natural gas processing (liquefaction/regasification).Coal, gas, or biomass to chemicals (methanol, ammonia).Petrochemicals (HDPE, LDPE, MEG, etc.).Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS).Solar and/or combined cycle power plants.Hydrogen value chain (reforming, liquefaction, fueling stations).Offshore and onshore pipelines.Various water treatment plants (desalination, raw, waste).
