job summary: This position is responsible for redesigning our existing PROTECT case management system considering modern web-based look and function. This position will be part of a two-year modernization effort and serve as a member of the core team that includes members of the existing DAIT team and other IT contractors. location: MADISON, Wisconsin job type: Contract salary: $32.44 - 37.44 per hour work hours: 8am to 5pm education: Bachelors responsibilities: PROTECT is the in-house-developed comprehensive case management system used by all 71 District Attorney offices across the State. The system is a crucial tool for the operation of the DA offices as well as State justice partners (DOT, DOT, DOC and CCAP) through various interfaces. The system is currently SQL client-server based (VB.NET) and will be modernized in place to be cloud-ready with new code/functions rolled out as the system is refactored by feature/segment. A UI/UX designer plays a critical role in creating a web-based case management system that is both functional and user-friendly, helping users efficiently manage cases and tasks Responsibilities: Information Architecture: Organize and structure the content and features within the application to ensure logical flow and easy navigation.Create sitemaps and wireframes to plan the layout and hierarchy of the interface. User Interface (UI) Design: Design the visual elements of the interface, including buttons, forms, icons, and other UI components.Choose a color scheme and typography that aligns with the application's branding and user preferences.Create high-fidelity mockups and prototypes that illustrate the final look and feel of the system. User Experience (UX) Design: Design and optimize user workflows to make the case management process efficient and intuitive.Ensure that the user interface is accessible and responsive, catering to users on various devices and screen sizes.Implement best practices for usability and user-centered design. Interaction Design: Define user interactions, such as how forms are filled out, how data is submitted, and how notifications are presented.Create interactive prototypes to demonstrate the functionality of the system. Accessibility: Ensure that the case management system complies with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) to make it usable by individuals with disabilities. Collaboration: Work closely with other team members to ensure the design is implemented correctly.Communicate design decisions and rationale effectively to stakeholders. Documentation: Create design specifications, style guides, and design documentation to provide clear guidelines for development. Continuous Improvement: Continuously seek ways to enhance the user experience by gathering and analyzing user feedback and making iterative improvements. Quality Assurance: Ensure the final product aligns with the approved designs and meets the established standards of quality. User Training and Support: Provide guidance and training materials to help users understand and navigate the system effectively.Communicate regularly with team members to gather design needs and share changes and reasons behind choices. Actively participate in agile project meetings. Understand business requirements to achieve DAIT's desired outcomes, while adhering to agency policies and procedures.Support for other DAIT team initiatives as needed. Required skills: At least five years of experience as a UI/UX designer for user-friendly and responsive web applications as opposed to a web site.Understanding of user-centered design principles, usability, accessibility, and interaction design best practices. Experience creating full-site designs, from overall look and feel to specific page layouts and behaviors. Experience with creating, presenting, and explaining prototypes and mockups. Ability to learn quickly; synthesize complex information; identify key points and communicate results accurately and effectively.Comfort with adaptability, evolving project structure, and feedback.strong communication skills, including verbal (phone/video) and written (email) with both team members (developers, business analysts) and stakeholders. strong creative, problem-solving, organizational, and task management skills. Preferred skills: Experience with modernization project(s) using similar technologies. Experience assisting with testing/verification of system updates and redesign. Familiarity with CI/CD build and deploy processes.
