A Principal Mechanical Engineer is needed for a company that produces electronics and HVAC equipment for buildings in the Milwaukee, WI area. This role requires a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and at least 5 years of experience in product design to lead mechanical engineering activities using CREO, Windchill, and SAP while applying GD&T, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies to ensure high-quality manufacturing and validation.

responsibilities:
- Join the Refrigeration Controls Product Engineering team as a Principal Mechanical Engineer.
- Focus on mechanical design, drawing development, product validation, and quality-driven engineering.
- Utilize expertise in CREO, Windchill, SAP, and GD&T.
- Design sheet metal components, machined parts, and mechanical assemblies.
- Lead design activities and support quality improvement efforts using critical thinking.
- Participate in structured problem solving using Lean and Six Sigma methods.
- Ensure product integrity through testing, validation, and structured reviews.
- Create, modify, and manage 3D models and 2D drawings in PTC CREO.
- Design sheet metal parts, machined components, weldments, and mechanical assemblies.
- Apply ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards to ensure accurate and functional documentation.
- Lead drawing and design reviews focusing on manufacturability, quality, and clarity.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to improve DFM and DFMA outcomes.
- Develop and execute part validation plans including dimensional checks and functional testing.
- Use structured problem solving tools such as 8D, DMAIC, and Ishikawa to address quality issues.
- Support root cause analysis for production issues, field returns, or supplier defects.
- Work with Quality, Metrology, and Testing teams to define inspection criteria.
- Maintain documentation to comply with internal quality systems and engineering standards.
- Apply Lean and Six Sigma tools to improve processes and enhance product reliability.
- Lead or participate in Kaizen events, PFMEA reviews, and process optimization efforts.
- Identify improvement opportunities in design, documentation, validation, or product structure.
- Manage CAD data, design releases, and workflow processes in PTC Windchill PLM.
- Maintain accurate Bills of Material, revision history, and part metadata in SAP.
- Prepare Engineering Change Requests and Engineering Change Notices.
- Work with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Management to meet requirements.
- Support prototype builds, engineering trials, and pre-production validation activities.
- Communicate technical information through engineering documents, presentations, and reports.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams to align design and documentation standards.
- Possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited U.S. institution.
- Have 5 or more years of experience in mechanical design, product engineering, or quality engineering.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in CREO Parametric and GD&T.
- Maintain experience with drawing creation, documentation standards, and assembly design.
- Show knowledge of validation testing, inspection methods, and product quality tools.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience with Windchill PLM and SAP ERP for BOMs and change management.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience in manufacturing environments including collaboration with suppliers and production.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project.
- Familiarity with metrology tools and inspection documentation processes.
