Hybrid role in Pleasant HIll CA. The Lead Protection & Control Engineer works on T&D substations for AC, HVDC and FACTS projects with designers, peer engineers & leaders. The engineer is responsible to define, design, coordinate all technical aspects of HV / EHV substation protection & control and oversee technical plant integration and optimization at project level considering safety, quality, schedule and cost criteria.This is a 12 months contract position and will likely go temp to perm.

responsibilities:
- Lead the design and technical coordination of Protection & Control (P&C) schemes for HV/EHV substations, HVDC, and BESS projects.
- Develop complex engineering deliverables including one-line/three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay settings.
- Oversee integrated solutions for SCADA, cybersecurity, and telecommunications using IEC61850 protocols.
- Manage local or remote design teams to ensure high-quality plant integration and technical optimization.
- Perform critical design calculations for DC battery sizing, voltage drop, and CT/PT parameters.
- Coordinate technical requirements with layout engineers, site managers, vendors, and customers.
- Prepare engineering estimates, equipment quantities, and cost proposals for new projects.
- Facilitate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), including on-site commissioning support.
- Conduct peer reviews and constructability assessments to ensure safety, quality, and compliance.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.

- Demonstrated presentation skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college (BSEE with Power major strongly preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in system protection schemes, relay selection, primary equipment interface requirements, operational analysis, communication systems and maintenance practices for transmission, distribution, and generation protection applications at both AIS and GIS substations.
- P.E. License or EIT with willingness to pursue and acquire P.E certification.
