A Paint Materials Engineer is needed for a leading automotive organization. The Paint Materials Engineer will be responsible for joining our Production Engineering team in the Lexington, KY area. The Materials Engineer will evaluate and manage new model color paint trials, implement new material technologies, and support current production initiatives. You will play a key part in reducing material costs and improving overall performance to ensure global manufacturing competitiveness.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering (or equivalent) backed by at least three years of experience, including one year specifically evaluating the color and appearance of painted surfaces. You must possess strong analytical skills to identify root causes and implement countermeasures, along with proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint for leadership reporting. Additionally, the ability to travel up to 30% and work occasional weekends or holidays is required. This is a long-term contract roles slated to last 12+ months.

- Lead new color and material introductions from lab workability through online testing and production approval
- Establish process controls and parameters for new materials and gain alignment among cross-functional teams
- Drive materials-related problem solving across multiple divisions using structured root-cause analysis methods
- Assess the environmental and cost-per-unit (CPU) impacts of new materials to guide stakeholder decision-making
- Coordinate trial planning, quality evaluations, and direction-setting recommendations for paint and resin shops
- Support overall Production Engineering Paint department objectives to advance plant-of-the-future initiatives

qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
Overall Experience: Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience.
Specialized Experience: At least 1 year dedicated to evaluating the color and appearance of painted surfaces.
