Responsibilities
The FOIA Analyst is responsible for the end-to-end processing of information requests submitted under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act. Working within the Law Department, the Analyst serves as a critical bridge between the public and the organization’s operational departments. This role requires a sophisticated balance of transparency compliance and the protection of sensitive commercial, security, and personal data.
- Case Management: Manage the full lifecycle of requests, from initial intake and perfected acknowledgment to final determination and document release.
- Records Coordination: Liaise with various internal departments to conduct comprehensive searches for responsive records.
- Technical Review & Redaction: Perform detailed, line-by-line reviews of complex documents, including reports, procurement records, and security protocols.
- Application of Exemptions: Correctly apply statutory exemptions to protect the business.
- Legal Correspondence: Draft legally defensible determination letters, fee estimates, and rolling production updates.
