The Opportunity We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly autonomous Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our Business Office for a 12-month contract. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a foundation in payroll execution and a desire to contribute to a mission-driven organization.
You will take full ownership of the district’s payroll and benefits programs, ensuring accuracy and compliance while serving as a key collaborator within our business operations team. Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of specialized payroll experience is required.
- Education: Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field. (A waiver may be considered for candidates possessing an exceptional level of related experience and expertise).
- Technical Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word is essential. You must be comfortable navigating complex spreadsheets and utilizing technology to improve office workflows.
- Communication Skills: Excellent grammatical and proofreading skills with a sharp eye for detail. Candidate Profile

Responsibilities
- Precision & Compliance: Manage the full lifecycle of payroll processing and benefits administration with a high degree of autonomy, maintaining rigorous standards of data integrity and confidentiality.
- Strategic Business Support: Collaborate closely with the Director of Business Services to provide versatile administrative support, streamlining Business Office operations and special projects.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the Payroll and Benefits Manager to synchronize departmental workflows while independently troubleshooting complex inquiries and system audits.
