- Tenure: Demonstrated history of good professional tenure (ideally 4–5+ years in previous roles), showcasing stability and long-term commitment.
- Multi-State Expertise: Comprehensive, hands-on knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations across a minimum of 3–5 states (experience spanning 10+ states including CA, TX, and AZ is highly preferred).
- Technical & Analytical Acumen: Advanced proficiency in modern enterprise HRIS/payroll databases and Tier-1 software systems. High level of comfort using Microsoft Excel for data analysis and auditing.
- Interpersonal Strengths: Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to stand firm behind operational changes while maintaining positive, professional relationships across the department.

Responsibilities
- Team Management & Mentorship: Direct and lead the daily workflow of a 4–5 person payroll department. Act as a hands-on mentor to develop team capabilities, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Process Improvement & Change Management: Proactively identify inefficiencies, design scalable workflows, and champion process improvements. Demonstrate the resilience and leadership necessary to manage internal pushback and drive adoption of new procedures.
- Multi-State Office Payroll: Oversee full-cycle, compliant payroll processing for 3,000 office employees across 10 states, ensuring absolute accuracy and adherence to varied state-specific labor laws.
- Executive Payroll: Directly manage and process highly confidential executive payroll allocations, compensation models, and sensitive employee data with the utmost discretion.
- System Integrity & Compliance: Maintain the absolute accuracy of employee records within the enterprise accounting/HRIS platform. Ensure continuous compliance with all local, state, and federal tax regulations and statutory reporting requirements.
- Audit Coordination: Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors, managing requests and ensuring internal payroll controls are strictly maintained.
