About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Tax Specialist to step in and immediately take ownership of our multi-state tax operations and agency correspondence. This is a fast-paced, direct-impact role designed for a "plug-and-play" professional who can hit the ground running with minimal supervision.
In this role, you will act as an internal tax SME (Subject Matter Expert), directly managing correspondence, state-level tax filings, and compliance checks across 3–4 corporate entities while collaborating closely with external consulting partners. What We Are Looking For
- Hands-on Multi-State Tax Expertise: Proven competency navigating state tax agencies, correspondence, property tax, business tax, and employment tax across multiple states.
- "Plug-and-Play" Independence: High behavioral autonomy—you are a self-starter who arrives with a proactive list of questions, knows where to look up data, and executes efficiently.
- Corporate Acumen: Comfortable working in a professional finance environment with communication skills to liaise with internal teams and external advisors.
- Software Competency: General proficiency in standard corporate accounting software and tax management portals.

Responsibilities
- Agency Correspondence & Research: Independently research, track, and resolve incoming tax notices and correspondence from state and local tax agencies (Property Tax, Business Tax, Employment Tax, and Sales Tax).
- Multi-State Tax Filings: Ensure all state tax filings, sales tax returns, and compliance deadlines are met accurately and on time across multiple operational jurisdictions.
- Proactive Tax Audit & Review: Pull prior year tax returns, examine past filings, and ask targeted questions to self-orient quickly without needing extensive hand-holding.
- Advisor Collaboration: Serve as the internal point of contact for external tax consultants who perform annual heavy lifting.
