Position Summary
Solution Architects create IT architecture and design solutions based on business requirements, industry trends, and technology options. Solution Architects are responsible and accountable for the solution architecture in partnership with enterprise architects, domain architects, and engineering teams. Solution Architects partner with the delivery team for solution planning, delivery, detailed design, and implemented solutions. Solution Architects ensure the implemented solutions are consistent with the approved architecture. Solution Architects communicate, mentor, and lead teams based on program or project needs for solution delivery.

Core Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design and Govern Solutions: Designs, develops, and directs solution architectures, ensuring they align with architectural standards, target states, and security guidelines throughout the entire project lifecycle. They lead design reviews and approve key architecture decisions through a Solution Architecture Review Board.
- Strategic Planning & Roadmapping: Analyzes the business and IT environment to identify deficiencies, aging technology, and misalignments with business needs. They partner with Enterprise Architects to execute projects and initiatives defined on the domain roadmap.
- Collaboration and Consultation: Serves as a consultant for application and infrastructure development projects, ensuring solutions are cohesive and aligned with architectural guardrails. They work closely with Product Managers and PMO to define use cases, requirements, and scope.
- Documentation & Communication: Creates and maintains documentation for solution architecture designs and communicates key decisions to all levels of management. They also create high-level models and transitional views to guide solution development.
- Operational & Compliance Oversight: Establishes processes for continuous integration, testing, and deployment, and creates non-functional specifications for operational agility and disaster recovery. They ensure solutions address compliance requirements such as PCI, HIPAA, and SOX.
- Technical Oversight & Review: Defines technical use cases, evaluates non-functional requirements, and participates in design reviews to ensure deliverables meet standards and requirements. They also estimate development effort and define actions to close architecture gaps.

Required:
- 10+ years' professional Information Technology experience.
- 7+ years' hands-on architecture with broad COTS package integration experience.
- Knowledge of IT Application architecture, Design methodologies across multiple platforms.
- Strong leadership in designing and building cloud applications using cloud technologies (PaaS, IaaS), database query languages, and web programming languages under general direction.
- Proficient at modeling at 3 levels of abstraction: conceptual, logical, and physical.
- Proficient in modeling languages: Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), Decision Modeling Notation (DMN), Unified Modeling Notation (UML), specifically the following UML diagrams: Use Case diagrams, Statemachine diagrams, Class diagrams, Component diagrams, Sequence diagrams, Communication diagrams, and Deployment diagrams.
- Thorough understanding of and experience with multiple SDLC methods.
- Ability to make architecture changes in a dynamic agile environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution) at all levels.
- Ability to translate technical ideas/designs to business language and communicate trade-offs and transactional states with technical and business teams.

- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and coordination skills.
- Team player. Proven ability to work effectively within a large organization that operates using a matrix organization.

skills: Recommended:
- Solution Architecture Professional Certification (e.g., IASA CITA-F, CITA-A or higher).
- Proficient in-service oriented architecture (SOA), micro-service-architecture (MSA), messaging, object-oriented programming concepts, multi-tiered distributed component-based technology, relational and non-relational databases, infrastructure-as-a-service capabilities, legacy infrastructure platforms and technologies, and enterprise service bus.
- Strong facilitation/negotiation skills. Ability to interface with and influence people at multiple levels within the organization.
- Domain knowledge of the Retail industry desired.
- Other architecture certifications (e.g. TOGAF 9 certification, SEI, SAFe, ScrumAlliance).
- Microsoft Azure certification preferred.
- Successful internal candidates will have spent one year or more on their current team.
