Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and reliable GIS Technician I to support and maintain our geospatial systems. In this role, you will work closely with GIS staff and other departments to ensure accurate mapping and management of utility infrastructure. You will use Esri products and other GIS tools to analyze, visualize, and maintain spatial and non-spatial data while adhering to corporate standards and best practices.
This is a hands-on role that may involve occasional local travel for field data collection using GPS equipment.

Responsibilities
- Maintain, analyze, and present spatial data using Esri products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online/Portal).
- Support GIS-centric "digital twin" of utility infrastructure systems and ensure accuracy of all physical assets.
- Integrate spatial and non-spatial data from diverse sources (databases, spreadsheets, imagery, shapefiles, PDFs, AutoCAD files) into enterprise geodatabases.
- Review site plans, as-builts, and construction completion documents for accuracy before entry into GIS.
- Ensure GIS data is properly formatted for integration with enterprise applications (CC&B, Cityworks, FME, Kloudgin).
- Use ETL processes (e.g., FME) to load and transform data according to corporate standards.
- Create detailed maps, apps, dashboards, and other geospatial products for staff and customers.
- Manage content, metadata, permissions, and sharing within ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS.
- Perform field locating of underground utilities using GPS and integrate observations into GIS.
- Assist Engineering and IT teams with GIS data conversions, exhibits, reports, and troubleshooting.
- Participate in meetings with staff, customers, and contractors to support project outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Geography, GIS, IT, or related field and 2 years of related experience OR
- Bachelor's degree preferred, with entry-level experience considered OR
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in GIS systems (7 years total if substituting for degree).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to read engineering plans, interpret aerial imagery, and work independently.
- Knowledge of water supply, distribution, wastewater collection, or other utility infrastructure is a plus.
