job summary:  A Structural Engineer is needed for a global engineering, construction and project management company in the Houston, TX area. This role will independently plan, conduct, and coordinate detailed civil site development design and execution work within the Energy Business Unit, providing technical direction to subordinates and ensuring compliance with engineering standards and procedures.    location: Houston, Texas  job type: Contract  salary: $51.40 - 66.71 per hour  work hours: 8am to 4pm  education: Bachelors     responsibilities:      Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of CSA engineering work on projects or for staff groups.Perform work involving conventional civil site development design but also resolving complex features (e.g., conflicting requirements, difficult coordination).Utilize company Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and appropriate 2-D and 3-D CADD tools.Plan, coordinate, or prepare work specifications, technical bid evaluations, and award recommendations for subcontracts or material requisitions related to civil site development.Coordinate engineering efforts between Civil Engineering and other disciplines, clients, suppliers, and contractors.When delegated, assume a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for specific tasks.Assist in on-the-job-training of assigned personnel and provide input for their performance evaluations.Prepare correspondence (letters) to vendors and clients.Review civil site development deliverables and technical documentation from suppliers and subcontractors.Prepare or assist in preparing conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.Perform or assist in problem analysis and original design associated with civil site development.Prepare or assist in preparing cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts, and change orders.Review and check the work of subordinate engineers.   Supervision & Team Roles    Supervision Received:     Performs most assignments independently with general instructions.Receives technical guidance from Engineering Specialists or Supervisors on unusual or complex problems.Requires supervisory approval on proposed project plans.   Supervision Exercised:       Provides technical direction and assigns work to subordinate engineers, designers, drafters, technicians, and others.     Contacts:     Independently contact vendor representatives and project field personnel to exchange information.Contact client counterparts as directed.   Required Knowledge & Qualifications    Knowledge and Experience:     strong knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, system design, and engineering calculations.Experience in preparation and checking of civil site development design deliverables (concepts, drawings, calculations, quantities) for: Site layout, site drainage, rough/finish grading, Rigid and flexible pavements, railroad crossings, Storm water and sanitary systems, fencing, underground utilities & Soil retention and stabilization structures.Knowledge of current computer applications: 2-D and 3-D CADD (e.g., Bentley MicroStation, InRoads, Intergraph Smart3D, etc.).Understanding of Engineering Department Procedures, relevant company design guides, and engineering planning/control methods.Broad knowledge of engineering application to plant constructability (methods and materials).Understanding of industry/regulatory codes and standards pertinent to Civil Engineering (e.g., AASHTO, ACI, ASTM).Skill in oral and written communication.Knowledge of Smartplant 3D is a plus.
