job summary: An energy technology company is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer in Richmond, VA area. This role requires a mechanical engineering degree and at least 5 years of steam turbine service experience to lead complex repairs, manage outage planning, and provide technical guidance for power generation equipment. location: Richmond, Virginia job type: Contract salary: $50.00 - 56.20 per hour work hours: 8am to 5pm education: Bachelors responsibilities: Offer technical guidance to field engineers and service managers for industrial, fossil, and nuclear steam turbines.Manage repairs for both GE and other original equipment manufacturer units.Direct service center complex repairs on rotors, diaphragms, casings, and valves.Act as the single point of contact and technical interface for complex repair projects across multiple departments.Ensure engineering deliverables meet project timelines and technical requirements.Function as a Project Engineering Manager for capital parts, upgrades, engineering studies, and valve solutions.Apply lean methodologies to daily management and continuous improvement focusing on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.Create inspection and test plans for site assembly, disassembly, and service center repair scopes.Lead product qualification processes for first-of-a-kind service shop projects.Facilitate design reviews and technical risk discussions with internal and external stakeholders.Provide technical recommendations to customers during the outage planning phase.Advise parts engineering and sourcing teams on product design specifications.Dispose of product or process non-conformances and implement corrective actions through root cause analysis.Collaborate with sales, service directors, repair centers, and field engineers to provide technical direction.Serve as a resource for colleagues with less experience and lead small, low-risk projects.Travel domestically to visit customer sites between 5 and 10 percent of the time. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.Minimum of 5 years of experience in steam turbine service engineering.Minimum of 2 years of field execution experience, preferably in the power generation industry.Experience with Catia CAD drafting is considered a bonus.
