job summary: An energy technology company is hiring a Controls Engineer. Remote work. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 5 years of experience to lead the design, calculation, and commissioning of high-voltage substation protection and control systems using IEC 61850 standards and relay coordination software. This is a 12 months contract position. location: Remote, Remote job type: Contract salary: $62.21 - 67.21 per hour work hours: 8am to 5pm education: Bachelors responsibilities: Leads the technical design and coordination of Protection & Control (P&C) systems for AC, HVDC, and FACTS substation projects.Develops high-quality protection schemes including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and relay settings.Manages local and remote design teams to produce wiring diagrams, panel arrangements, and cable schedules.Implements IEC 61850 process and system bus architectures within substation environments.Evaluates interoperability and communication protocols for protection relays, SCADA, and cybersecurity.Performs complex engineering calculations for battery sizing, voltage drops, and CT/PT parameters.Coordinates technical requirements with layout engineers, relay setting specialists, and commissioning teams.Interfaces directly with customers to resolve technical issues and present engineering solutions.Prepares engineering estimates for equipment quantities, costs, and labor hours for project proposals.
