Our client is seeking a dedicated Senior Research Associate I - Biologics Purification & Characterization to join a top-tier global biotechnology leader. Located onsite 5 days per week in beautiful San Rafael, CA, this laboratory-based role focuses on hands-on purification and analytical characterization of recombinant enzymes and therapeutic proteins to support cutting-edge early-stage research programs.

responsibilities:
- Independently perform purification of recombinant enzymes, proteins, and antibodies using ÄKTA Pure and ÄKTA Avant FPLC systems.
- Execute and optimize purification workflows including affinity, ion exchange (AEX/CEX), size-exclusion (SEC), and hydrophobic interaction (HIC) chromatography.
- Perform concentration and buffer exchange using tangential-flow filtration (TFF) and ultrafiltration/diafiltration (UF/DF).
- Conduct analytical assays (SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, SEC-HPLC, RP-HPLC) to assess purity, identity, concentration, and quality.
- Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebooks and perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or Chemical Engineering with 4-6 years of biotech industry experience (or Master's degree with 2-4 years).
- Demonstrated biotech experience purifying recombinant enzymes, proteins, antibodies, or peptide therapeutics.
- Hands-on experience operating ÄKTA Pure, ÄKTA Avant, or equivalent chromatography systems.
- Experience with protein analytical techniques including SEC-HPLC, RP-HPLC, CE-SDS, SDS-PAGE, and UV/Vis spectroscopy.
- Hands-on experience with tangential-flow filtration (TFF) and ultrafiltration/diafiltration (UF/DF).
- Experience with electronic laboratory notebooks (Benchling) and data analysis software (GraphPad Prism or JMP).
