This role is responsible for calculating cost estimates from incoming client RFQs by collaborating with shop floor leadership, material suppliers, and external process vendors. The ideal candidate blends solid technical knowledge of plastics manufacturing with keen attention to detail and shop-management software skills. Qualifications & Requirements
- Plastics Experience: Hands-on or estimating exposure in plastics machining, polymer fabrication, or non-metallic material processing is strongly preferred.
- Work Experience: 3+ years in a precision manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years focused directly on cost estimating.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and operating CAD software (AutoCAD LT or similar).
- Hands-on familiarity with shop measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures).
- Solid mastery of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and operating CAD software (AutoCAD LT or similar).
- Communication & Math: Mathematical skills, clear technical writing abilities, and comfortable communicating directly with clients and vendors over the phone.

Responsibilities
- Estimate & Route RFQs: Process incoming quotes and customer orders accurately to maximize margins while driving competitive lead times.
- Manufacturing Planning: Create accurate bills of materials (BOMs), labor hour estimates, and operational sequences in ShopTech/ERP systems based on part geometry, prints, and plastic material characteristics.
- Blueprint & GD&T Analysis: Review client engineering drawings, specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to formulate precise resource and cycle-time projections.
- Tooling & Fixture Concepts: Conceptualize specialized fixture and cutting tool designs required for complex plastic and component fabrication.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner across engineering, purchasing, and quality departments to support process improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and project kick-off alignment.
- Estimate Revisions: Update cost models for engineering change orders (ECOs) and review second-run job actuals against quoted scope of work to ensure profitability.
- Quality & ISO Alignment: Maintain adherence to ISO quality objectives, safety protocols, and continuous improvement initiatives.
