job summary: Fund Controller This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding private equity and venture capital business. The Operations team plays a vital role in overseeing fund operations encompassing accounting, treasury, financial reporting, and investor relations. The Fund Controller will oversee key operational and financial functions for including NAV oversight, capital calls and distributions, investor reporting, and annual audits. This role requires frequent collaboration with other internal teams and external service providers (administrators, auditors, tax preparers, investor relations, deal teams). The Fund Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer. location: Arlington, Virginia job type: Permanent salary: $100,000 - 150,000 per year work hours: 9 to 5 education: Bachelor's degree experience: 2 Years responsibilities: Fund Oversight & Accounting - Review the quarterly NAV and financial statement process for assigned funds, reviewing work prepared by third-party fund administrators. - Review and analyze complex private equity and/or venture capital transactions. - Oversee waterfall and carried interest calculations, management fee arrangements, and performance metrics (gross/net IRR). - Ensure accounting and presentation is consistent with U.S. GAAP and fund governing documents. Fund Operations - Plan and coordinate capital calls and distributions; review calculations and investor notices. - Oversee fund fees, expenses, cash, and capital management. - Manage annual audit process for assigned funds, liaising with administrators and auditors. - Coordinate and review the preparation of annual tax returns with the outside tax preparers and coordinate the distribution of K-1s to investors. - Contribute to the development of new fund launches and innovative product solutions. - Enhance and expand internal accounting/finance policies to ensure best practices. Cross-Functional Support - Provide operational and financial data to Investment, Investor Relations, Tax, and Compliance teams. - Develop strong working relationships with internal teams and external service providers. - Lead or support projects related to operations, systems infrastructure, and process improvements. - Create and review ad-hoc reports for investors upon request. qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA, CFA, or MBA strongly preferred. - 2+ years' experience in alternative investments, fund administration, or public accounting. - Knowledge of partnership accounting and closed-end fund structures (capital calls, distributions, waterfalls). - Familiarity with valuation methodologies for private investments. - Advanced Excel skills required. - Salesforce experience is preferred. - Strong communication and client service skills. This position sits in Arlington, VA and works under a mostly remote schedule (25-35% in office requirement). Salary is $100,000 - 150,000 depending upon experience and skill set.
