What You’ll Do
- Run the Show: Set up and operate automated or semi-automated die-cutting presses (Bobst, Heidelberg, or similar) to precise specifications.
- Master the Make-Ready: Install dies, stripping components, and counter-creasing matrices to ensure flawless cuts, scores, and creases.
- Handle Premium Stock: Manage feeds for paper, paperboard, and corrugated substrates—adjusting for calipers, weights, and grain like a pro.
- Troubleshoot & Maintain: Keep the machines running smoothly with routine PMs and quick mid-run mechanical adjustments to minimize downtime.
- Team Up: Keep a clean, safe workspace and pitch in with standard paper cutters or bindery support when production shifts gears.
- Proven Experience: Solid background operating die cutters in a packaging, printing, or converting environment.
- Mechanical Aptitude: You don't just push buttons; you know how the machinery works and how to fix mid-run issues.
- Precision: Ability to read blueprints/job tickets and use measuring tools to hit exact dimensions.

Key Responsibilities
- Machine Setup & Operation: Set up and operate automated/semi-automated die-cutting presses (e.g., Bobst, Heidelberg, or similar) according to job tickets and blueprints.
- Tooling & Die Preparation: Install dies, stripping components, and counter-creasing matrices. Perform make-ready processes to ensure clean cuts, scores, and creases.
- Quality Control: Inspect first-off pieces and conduct regular quality checks during production runs to ensure registration, depth, and dimensions meet strict standards.
- Substrate Handling: Manage paper, paperboard, or corrugated stock feeds, adjusting machine settings for different calipers, weights, and grain directions.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine preventative maintenance (lubrication, cleaning) and troubleshoot mechanical or cutting issues mid-run to minimize downtime.
- Safety & Documentation: Maintain a clean, safe work environment adhering to OSHA guidelines. Accurately log production data, waste counts, and time tracking.
- Cross-Functional Support: Perform cutting tasks with standard paper cutters and assist with miscellaneous bindery duties as needed during slower production periods.
